Description
The Musella Estate is located just east of Verona close to the village of Ferrazze. There are three vineyards, Monte del Drago, Perlar and Palazzina, on three different hills that are biodynamically farmed. Biodynamic farming, for Musella, means fertilization, cultivation and breeding are implemented in ways that respect and promote the fertility and vitality of the soil as well as abolishing the use of synthetic mineral fertilizers and chemical pesticides. The care taken in the vineyard and winery are reflected in the vibrant and complex wines that they produce.
2016 is one of the best vintages! A perfect balance in the vineyard that is rare. Winter and spring went as expected with regular, predictable conditions. Summer was warm with pockets of rain through the season to balance the heat. This provided optimal growing conditions for the vines.
At the winery, the cultivated grapes are arranged in a ventilated room to be dried. Through this process, grapes lose up to 35% of their original weight; this concentrates sugars, aromatics and tannins. Gentle pressing takes place in January at a very low temperature followed by an extended maceration. The wine is aged for 24 months in French oak tonneau and then in larger barrels. After bottling, the wine is further aged for at least one year prior to being released to market.

Taste
A very classic style of Amarone della Valpolicella; full-bodied with lots of complex aromas. The fruit is dark and concentrated, black cherry, black berries, damson plum, raisins. The fruit quality is dried and there is a dried leaf and earth quality to the wine with an underlying presence of coffee, cocoa and mocha. A great expression of this style of wine from Veneto.
