Description
Château Maurac has a deep rooted history in Bordeaux's wine region of St Estephe with a mention in 1846 in "Bordeaux and its Wines" the well known Bordeaux wine directory if its time. The estate was created in 1986 by Jean Gabas who purchased several plots from the co-operators of Saint-Seurin de Cadourne. Claude Gaudin, a well respected viticulturist and winemaker who consulted for Jean Gabas, bought the property in 1998. Gaudin studied the land, and replanted the vines to suit the mosaic of soil types of the land. The focus today is one of "simplicity and discretion" with minimal intervention in both the vineyard and cellar.
Les Jumelles is 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon from 30 year old vines planted on gravel and limestone/clay soils. The plots of grapes are vinified separately in stainless steel vats and aged for twelve months: 30% in oak barrels and 70% in vats. The wine is blended and then bottled without fining and a very light filtration.

Taste
'Les Jumelles' starts out with floral and mineral notes with a touch of jalapeno. The fruit on the palate is ripe without being overly lush with flavours such as red and black currant with cola. The lingering finish of black cherry and pencil shavings is accompanied by dry, fine tannins.
