Description
LLopart is a family-run winery with a long history in winemaking. It is the second oldest sparkling wine house and is considered to be one of the top wineries in the world of Spanish sparkling wine today. There is historical documentation that in 1385, there was a transfer of some vines located in the current Heredad Can Llopart to Bernat Llopart. However, it was not until 1887 that they finished producing their first bottle of wine. Since then, the winery has continued to refine their practices and have incorporated new approaches to increase the quality of their wines. Llopart is one of the founding members of the privately administered designation Corpinnat. Their bottles have bore the designation Corpinnat instead of Cava since the beginning of 2019.
The vineyards of Can Llopart de Subirats are situated at 360 meters above sea level and stretch over a hill of uneven terrain. The estate comprises of 500 hectares: 100Ha of vineyards and over 350Ha of Mediterranean forest. The climate sees very mild winters and sunny summers that are not too warm. The mountain range of Montserrat protects the vineyards from the cold northern winds during the winter, making temperatures milder. Organic faming practices and manual harvests are implemented in the vineyard, paying utmost respect to the environment.
This vintage Corpinnat, first released in 1983 and named in honour of the family's first winemaker - Bernardus Leopardi, is made from a careful selection of Xarello, Macabeu and Parellada grapes of exceptional quality, finesse and aging potential. The grapes are manually harvested and each variety is vinified individually. When the primary fermentation is complete, the wines are blended and bottled. The wine then undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle as per the traditional method. After more than 66 months of ageing, the wine is disgorged with no added liqueur d'expédition.
