Description
‘499’ was founded in 2012 by two talented winemaking professionals; Mario Andrion (winemaker at Castello di Verduno) and Gabriele Saffirio (formerly of Brovia). Located on the picturesque cliffs of Camo, at the top of the Langhe, the estate is planted to 14 acres solely dedicated to Moscato and Freisa.
The winery takes its name from the elevation of the vineyards situated at 499m above sea level. The cool climate here allows for the slower ripening of grapes; yielding wines with naturally elevated acidity. ‘499’ employs minimal intervention practices in both the vineyard and the winery reflected in their wines that are refined, full of character and vibrancy.
The Moscato grapes are situated on chalky sand and sandstone soils. Production of the wine is completed by the use of stainless steel tanks which allows for all the innate fruit quality and freshness to be preserved. The production is incredibly small, producing a mere 6000 bottles per vintage.
