Description
Mas Amiel's history is both interesting and amusing. In 1816, the Bishop of Perpignan bet a plot of land during a game of cards. He lost to engineer, Raymond Etienne Amiel. Charles Dupuy brought the estate in the late 19th century and was under the family until 1997. Today, owned by Olivier Decelle, with Nicolas Raffy as head winemaker, the winemaking philosophies and techniques are biodynamic. The focus is to make wines with the least amount of intervention as possible to the extent of using zero sulphur. Mas Amiel has gained a reputation as the leading producer of Vins Doux Naturels in the area. In their continued effort to push boundaries, they also make dry wines that are classic to the region.
A blend of Grenache Blanc, Macabeo, Grenache Gris and Vermentino, this is a refreshing white wine made following the principles of Biodynamics and minimal intervention. The grapes are harvested and after pressing, they are left for a short settling period overnight. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks using indigenous yeast strains and the wine is then left to a brief aging in concrete tanks till it is bottled.
