Description
The story of Chiusa Grande Organic Farm started in the early ‘60s when Rocco D’Eusanio recognised a gap in the market in the Centre and South of Italy and started his company to grow and sell vines, which soon became the area’s go-to point for the wine sector. The D’Eusanio family in 1991 acquired the Chiusa Grande country estate and grew vines and organic vegetables in heated greenhouses. They then moved into production and in 1996 their first wine was made. Today, Chiusa Grande is led by Franco D’Eusanio, son of Rocco, and Franco’s children Ilaria and young Rocco. Together, from 60 hectares of vines, they make organic wines.
The Passerina grapes are planted in clay soils which lends more body and structure to the wine. After a short period of hyper-oxygenation the wine is fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeast at a controlled temperature of 14˚C. After fermentation the wine is age on the fine lees for about two months and then left to rest in stainless steel for another 3 months before bottling.
