Description
João Teodósio Matos Barbosa founded his winery in 1997, and by 1999 the first vineyard was planted in Vale de Junco, Esperança, Portalegre. The wines were first made available on the global market in 2005, after a small production in 2004 in the vineyard of Valle de Junco. Years later, after buying a plot of land on the slopes of Serra d'Aire and Candeeiros, Barbosa planted their second vineyard. They were then able to focus their efforts on completing the construction of two wineries, one in Esperança and another in Rio Maior, which were completed by the Summer of 2007.

Their philosophy has always been to approach wine production in the most hands-off, natural way possible. Harvest is an incredibly important time for Barbosa, for many reasons. It is completed over the course of a month and a half, allowing time to carefully select the most prestigious grapes at their optimal ripeness. The harvest team consists of friends, colleagues, relatives, and business partners, who all join together and partake. Barbosa firmly believes that everyone's involvement in harvest will lead to a superior product in the bottle. Once harvest is complete, the grapes are brought to the winery to be placed in a low-temperature environment, and eventually moved to pneumatic presses; the focus is to maintain great quality musts during this process.

A blend of local grape varieties Viosinho, Moscatel Galego Branco & Rabigato from selected north-facing vineyards in the Douro Valley.  After spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine is naturally piped through vats by means of gravity.
Taste
The wine shows tart and ripe green apple, lemon zest and bosc pear. There is a distinct saline minerality and underlying notes of white pepper, and crushed acacia petals. The wine is rich and round on the mid-palate with refreshing acidity and beautiful length.
Cellaring Potential
Drink now or cellar for 5+ years.
Food Matching
The perfect pairing with shellfish, raw or cooked. Enjoy with roasted chicken, grilled salmon or vegetables.
