Description
João Teodósio Matos Barbosa founded his winery in 1997, and by 1999 the first vineyard was planted in Vale de Junco, Esperança, Portalegre. The wines were first made available on the global market in 2005, after a small production in 2004. Years later, after buying a plot of land on the slopes of Serra d'Aire and Candeeiros, Barbosa planted their second vineyard on steep slopes ranging from 330 to 385 meters altitude. Their philosophy has always been to approach wine production in the most hands-off, natural way possible.

Harvest is an incredibly important time for Barbosa and is completed over the course of a month and a half. Grapes are carefully selected and ones at their optimal ripeness are retained. The harvest team consists of friends, colleagues, relatives, and business partners, who all join together and partake. Barbosa firmly believes that everyone's involvement in harvest will lead to a superior product in the bottle.

Once harvest is complete, the grapes are brought to the winery to be placed in a low-temperature environment and eventually moved to mechanical or foot treading tanks; the focus is to maintain great quality musts during this process. Once alcoholic fermentation is complete, the wine is piped through vats by gravity into the ageing cellar where they are stored for up to two years before being bottled.

A rich and vibrant blend of Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, and Tinta Amarela from selected vineyards in the Douro Valley.

Taste
The wine shows dark and ripe black cherry, blackberry and cassis with underlying notes of forest floor, herbes de Provence, and cedar spice. The wine is dry, and full-bodied with long length and refreshing acidity.
Cellaring Potential
Enjoy now or cellar for 8+ years
Food Matching
A great wine to pair with barbecued ribs, wild boar stew or Ratatouille.
