Description
In Rioja Alta, this vineyard comprises trellised vines with an average age of 25 years. The soil is an impressive layer of large white pebbles with a depth of about 40 cm covering loose, sandy sub-soil. This is ideal soil to grow vines as it has excellent drainage, great exposure to light and allows for the perfect placement of the roots so that they may receive nutrients.
2019 was generally a stable wine-growing year, with accumulated temperatures that can be considered average for the region and annual rainfall of 440 mm. The summer was dry and sunny, allowing optimal ripening and an impeccable vineyard’s vegetative state. The harvest arrived with perfect weather conditions, being shorter than in previous years, due to a smaller quantity of grapes – the result of a hailstorm in August. In short, an exemplary vintage with a low harvest of extraordinary quality, and possibly memorable in Rioja.
The 2019 vintage is a blend of tempranillo (92%), Garnacha (6%) and Graciano (2%). Indigienous yeast was used in half of the fermenting tanks. Malolactic fermentation was completed in stainless steel and concrete tanks. In March, the wine is transported to age in American (70%) and French (30%) oak barrels for 12 months.

Taste
A serious style of Rioja; dry, medium-full bodied, elevated tannin and acid. This wine is about dried earth, cedar, dried savoury herbs such as dill and tobacco. The fruit is tart and dried red and black cherry with currants. There are notes of tar, dried leather and sweet and sour sauce. This an incredibly balanced and savoury wine.
