Description
Milena Pepe was born and raised in Belgium. After studying marketing in Brussels and completing her training in viticulture and enology in Provence and Burgundy, she relocated to Campania (Irpinia).
Her father Angelo, a well-respected restauranteur in the area, entrusted her to manage the family estate, Tenuta Cavalier Pepe. The estate comprises 12 hectares of olive trees and 60 hectares of vines, producing approximately 400,000 bottles annually. Milena focuses on the cultivation of the indigenous grape varieties to the region such as Aglianico, Greco di Tufo, and Fiano di Avelino.
The grapes for Cavalier Pepe’s Falanghina ‘Lila’ are grown on estate-owned vineyards in the hills of the municipality of Luogosano and Sant’Angelo all’Esca, located within the Irpinia Falanghina DOC production area.
The vines are planted on deep clay and sand, rich with organic and volcanic deposits. Grapes are harvested by hand and immediately transported to the cellar, where they are sorted and pressed whole.
Cold soaking is followed by alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged on its fine lees, followed by further aging in the bottle before its release to market.

Taste
A great representation of the expressive nature of Falanghina. The fruit is tart and ripe citrus pulp and pith with ripe peach. The florality complements the fruit perfectly showing citrus blossom and honeysuckle. There is a distinct bitter almond on the finish with a wet stone minerality. The extended lees aging lends a savoury, parmesan cheese rind note to the wine.
